KBO League 10 teams start spring camp

 The 10 KBO League clubs are entering full-scale preparation for the 2024 season.




Each team will leave the country one by one for the first spring camp from the 29th to the 31st. The players, who have prepared their bodies through personal training all winter, leave for a warm place and begin competing for the new season.


Last year, the most popular primary training destination was the United States. Seven of the 10 teams left for the first spring camp in the U.S. mainland. The clubs were highly satisfied with the climate and facilities, so they accepted inconveniences such as travel distance and adjusting to time difference.


However, recently, the number of clubs choosing the United States has decreased due to problems such as cold weather and high inflation due to climate change.


This year, only four teams, including LG Twins, NC Dinos, Kiwoom Heroes, and SSG Landers, are setting up camps in the United States. LG, NC, and Kiwoom train in Arizona, and SSG trains in Florida. Kiwoom will board a plane to the United States on the 29th, and LG, NC, and SSG will go to the United States on the 30th.


Australia is an emerging training site instead of the United States. In Australia, the time difference is not large, so there is no difficulty in adapting, and the weather is relatively warm.


Last year, the Doosan Bears were the only ones to train in Australia, but this year the KIA Tigers and Hanwha Eagles are also leaving for Australia. Doosan works hard in Sydney, KIA works hard in Canberra, and Hanwha works hard in Melbourne.


Doosan will board a plane on the 29th, and KIA and Hanwha will board a plane on the 30th.


The Samsung Lions leave for Okinawa, Japan on the 30th to prepare for the new season. The Lotte Giants, under the new leadership of coach Kim Tae-hyung, will improve their condition in Guam starting on the 31st.


KT is the only team that holds a spring camp in Korea. This time, I will unpack again at the Busan captain, where I trained when I could not leave the overseas camp due to the spread of COVID-19. On the 29th, we will move to Gijang and conduct autonomous training, and then begin official training with the club on February 1st.


A KT official said, “We trained in Arizona, USA last year, but there were more players who wanted to go to Gijang due to the cold and the distance to travel.”


Except for LG, NC, and Samsung, which hold all of their camp schedules at one location until early March, the seven teams will move their training locations to the second camp site around mid-February when actual games begin.


KT, KIA, and Lotte will join Okinawa, where Samsung is located, and Doosan will hold the second camp in Miyazaki, Japan.


Kiwoom will move to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on February 15th and continue training until March 5th. SSG will leave the United States and conduct a second camp in Chiayi, Taiwan from February 25th to March 7th.
