'ERA whopping 7.18' Japan Fujinami, Boras "received contract offers from 2-3 teams"

“Super agent” Scott Boras, who represents Fujinami’s contract, said, “We have received contract offers from 2-3 clubs.”

Japan's Nikkan Sports announced on the 7th (Korean time), "Boras is attending the Winter Meeting being held in Nashville, Tennessee, USA and is in the process of negotiating Fujinami's contract. There is demand from big league clubs (to recruit Fujinami)." He said.

Fujinami was Shohei Ohtani's rival during his amateur days.

Fujinami, who made his professional debut as a member of the Hanshin Tigers of the Japanese Professional Baseball League in 2013, won a record 14 games in the 2015 season. Afterwards, he suffered the humiliation of having his salary cut for six consecutive years due to a downward slope. His overall record in Japan is 57 wins, 54 losses, 11 holds, and an earned run average of 3.41. Fujinami pursued advancement to the big leagues through the posting system (private competitive bidding) and signed a one-year contract with the Oakland Athletics. The details of his contract have not been disclosed, but it is said to be a one-year salary of $3.25 million (approximately 4.3 billion won). These are shabby contract conditions compared to those used by Japanese players when they entered the big leagues.

Meanwhile, Ohtani dominated Japanese professional baseball as a pitcher and hitter and stood tall as the best player in MLB. For the first time in history, there is a possibility of a contract exceeding $500 million in total.

Fujinami had to endure difficulties even after advancing to the big leagues. After receiving a selection test through spring camp and exhibition games, he performed poorly in four starts in April after the opening, with no wins, losses in all four games, and an ERA of 14.40. He eventually moved to the bullpen. He throws a fastball exceeding 160 km/h, but his poor ball control was a problem.

He gradually stabilized in June, and was traded to Baltimore in mid-July. Baltimore, which was competing for first place in the National League's Eastern Division, recruited Fujinami to strengthen its bullpen. Fujinami changed into a Baltimore uniform and showed a more stable appearance with 2 wins, 2 holds, 2 saves, and an ERA of 4.85 in 30 games.
